Monaco Drops Bid to Expand Land

Monaco has stopped pursing plans for a multi billion-dollar plan to expand the tiny city-state into the ocean. The project, which was slated to start in 2011, would of cost between $5 and $10 billion dollars and would increase their land area by 5 percent. It was abandoned because of environmental concerns, but more notably because of the global economic crisis. The large artificial peninsula would have had housing, shops and other tourist attractions. They said this project was necessary because there is just simply nowhere else to build.
