President Trump’s legislative agenda has run into an
obstacle as congressional Republicans are split on spending levels. In the
crossfire of this disagreement is a legislative package that includes tax cuts,
energy policy, health care, and border security funds. GOP leaders in the House
have proposed cutting several hundred billion dollars over the next 10 years,
but this has been opposed by some hardline conservatives who want over $2
trillion in cuts. It will be interesting to see how the Trump administration
goes about achieving its goal of lowering taxes and cutting spending. So far,
it has been unclear how the administration plans to make up for the revenue
lost from tax cuts, as well as where spending will be cut from the budget, as
the GOP is looking to increase military and border security funding.

It will be very interesting to see how much we will actually see cut. In the first three weeks of the new administration we can already the intense efforts that are being made to reach these high number marks. $2 trillion does seem rather farfetched as it pertains to the total number that the government will decide on cutting, but nothing is certain these days with what goes on in our government.
I think the divide among Republicans shows how difficult it is to balance tax cuts with spending reductions, especially when some areas like military and border security require more funding. I wonder how the administration plans to offset the lost revenue without significantly increasing the deficit.
Cutting taxes while increasing spending for military and border security funding seems difficult. How will they offset the lost revenue from the tax cuts to afford an increase in military while cutting spending.
