This article puts faces to the unemployment numbers that continuously come up on this blog. The article examines the psychological effects of unemployment on families.
It will be interesting to see how the government reacts to the mental and emotional trauma being caused to people because of the recession. In-kind goods such as food stamps does seem to be a logical answer, but sometimes people are too proud of resorting to such means and perhaps it is the thought of having to resort to such desperation as accepting food stamps that leads to further health issues amongst the unemployed.
I agree with Brandon. The mental and emotional trauma should be of big concern to the government. I think that this article explains why there is such a low consumer confidence in the US now. People feel depressed, and they will feel this way until they get their jobs back.
