Christmas Shopping Down

This holiday shopping season has been the worst in decades. Some stores have had to slash their prices 50-70% to draw shoppers in. It is expected that many households will reduce their shopping budget to almost half of what it was last year.

Saturday Dec. 13 was the best shopping day of the season, but still did not compare to last year. Sales on "Black Friday" were 34.5% lower than they were last year. One positive that is coming from this is that shoppers can expect to see even bigger deals in the days to come. Large department stores and electronic stores are going to be looking to reduce their stock and trying to win over reluctant shoppers with great deals.

hopefully now less store clerks will be trampled and killed by mobs of materialistic fools.

That was at a WalMart Vance, where they have "everyday low prices" (hahaha). People will still be hoarding into WalMarts nationwide until Christmas Eve. Its the department and specialty stores that are reporting huge losses.

I agree with you though. Maybe we should arm store clerks with billy clubs or something?

haha! Joey on his summer job, or Frank whose supposed to be retired with a billy club at the door like "welcome to walmart, slow down or i'll..." yea, interesting! i like it!

I think that people will buy stuff no matter what, so is it really a great strategy to cut prices by that much? I feel people might be waiting til the last minute to find great deals, but will buy presents anyway.

Right now people are focused solely on saving an extra buck so if that means that they wait it out to make sure that they get to keep that dollar for something else.
