Uber announced that they have
bought a bikeshare company to compete w/ Lyft and to have multiple modes of transpiration
available in its app. Bicycles have become
trendy because they offer affordable mobility while limiting traffic congestion
and pollution. Rzepecki told CNNMoney. "Now it's just about shifting mode
and perception and getting people willing to try a bike instead of a car."

I find interesting that they are starting to have bicycles in uber. In the last months, most of the news about uber are not positive. They have been selling some of their infrastructure in Asia because they have been having a lot of trouble in those countries, this might be a way that they are looking to reshape the company so they can keep their market share and not have to keep selling and getting out of countries.
I think this is an incredibly smart purchasing decision on Uber's part. Bikeshare programs are popping up in almost all big cities and it is a great environmentally friendly substitute to the car. When traffic is bad, or the weather is nice more people are looking for other options to commute to work, such as on bikes. I have seen bikeshare companies flourish first hand in Manhattan, as many are utilizing them daily to get to work.
I agree with Amy, I think this is a brilliant move on the part of Uber. While most consumers think twice before installing a new app, especially one that requires credit card information, combining with the pre-existing Uber app would make it easier for consumers to chose a bike. Most of the bike sharing system I've been in contact with require consumers to create a new account, have a designated card that you swipe at the bike station to release a bike -- personally, I would be much more likely to take a bike if I could reserve one from my already-set-up Uber account.
I agree as well! I think there is a large eco-friendly demographic that is underestimated and under-accounted for in this fast moving technological and modern age. This will be great for people both physically and mentally and even better for the environment!
I think this is good idea for uber, many large cities have bikeshare programs in them. They are good for pollution, tourism and reducing traffic. There are many positive externalities for bikeshare programs.
