In a program designed after the
Sandy Hook Elementary shootings that killed 20 students and six staff members
in December, 24 Ohio educators received firearms training through a 3-day pilot
program organized by the Buckeye Firearms
Association. The program taught participants strategies
for reacting to school shooters through the use of model guns with plastic
pellets while playing roles in gunman scenarios based on real-life situations. The
24 educators selected to participate were among more than 1,400 applicants. The
article went on to assess whether arming teachers is the best way to stop mass
murders. Do you think arming teachers will solve the problem? Or will this just
make kids afraid of their teachers?

Interesting article Chris, I believe that arming teachers is not the correct answer but rather having a police officer. We have a surplus of police officers that have been laid off who would be capable of stepping into schools with little to no training. That would avoid the cost of training teachers and also give employment to others who would be out of work. However, any type of training to prepare for a situation like that is well worth it regardless of cost.
It is just saddening to hear about so many shootings that have happened in different schools over the years. I agree with Jacob that arming teachers is not the best idea. Who is to guarantee that some teach is not going to go mad one day with a gun nearby. There are obviously many different measures, however none of them seems to be cost-effective.
