College Enrollment Fell Slightly in 2010

This article talks about the recent fall in the percentage of high school graduates that are going on to attend universities and colleges around the country. This stat can be expected with the loss of jobs and the continued rise in tuition costs. However, the government needs to find a way to get these kids into schools and ease the burden on their parents. The U.S. can no longer afford to fall behind in education to the rest of the world. The government needs to put in place a system that will get kids the adequate finances and financial aid to allow them to further their education. It will only benefit the system as a whole if a larger percentage of the people in the United States are educated past high school. It is the new standard of the world.

Definitely investing in education is one of the most important investments for a nation, especially in this era of technological innovation. Through education the economy may be able to grow intensively by highly educated work force.

Will the United States in the future face a huge issue that other countries are dealing with- enough jobs and opportunities for the educated?

I agree that education should definitely be higher on the list of US priorities. Unfortunately the republican party, who now chair the House Appropriations Committee, do not support education and include it in their cuts to help reduce the budget deficit.
This could definitely affect the job market, and is also a result of the current state of the job market. Many overqualified workers are taking jobs they normally would not, meaning less qualified workers--who normally would get these jobs--are left unemployed and sinking further into poverty.

Now this is a bad sign for future American workers. Globalization's effects are progressive, with one being that the job markets are becoming more available to workers regardless of where they live. American workers will have much more difficulties competing with the world workforce that is getting more educated every year.

I believe many will agree in the long run education plays a vital role in the economic growth of a country. I'm surprised to see policy makers are planning to cut budget for education knowing that the US falls behind in education to the rest of the world.
