In a market economy like in the United States fake news of a bombing in the White House created a substantial fall in the Dow earlier this week.  The AP's twitter account was hacked by an international group apparently located in Syria.

I read about this from a different source - very interesting. The Syrian group that hacked into the AP's twitter account has also hacked a few other notable companies. Looks like some firms have to up their software protection and be on high alert for hackers.

Hacking is now a common place occurrence. You simply have to have adequete safety procedures in place or else your going to get hacked.

I find it particularly interesting that one tweet from a twitter account can cause the Dow Jones Industrial Average to drop and cause billions of dollars worth of losses instantly. While this is amusing, I think it also sends a message about how dramatic an economic effects social media can have on our society.

This serves as a good, yet scary point, that people outside of the USA have the ability to manipulate our financial systems and this should serve as a reminder to safe guard our resources. This will continue to become more common in my opinion.

at this age of information, we need to be more careful when it comes to Internet security. I mean a piece of misleading information may bring about a disaster. This again stresses the importance of networking security nowadays.

This is a strong testament to the power of social media, I think. Whereas before, people might have had to wait for news such as this to reach them through the vetted channels such as TV or newspapers, now the instant access to news and information clearly has a lot of sides to it. Interesting to read about.
