Tiktok lobbying

With Tiktok coming under fire in the capital, the company has started to ramp up its lobbying efforts. They have hired over 20 influencers to come to the capital to persuade lawmakers to be in favor of supporting Tiktok and that it is safe and not selling information to China. At the same time the chief executive in being questioned in Congress on the safety of the app.  Their argument is that the app is safe and is also a job for many Americans. There are currently 150 million American users and many of them us the app for either an income or a way of connecting with other. It is more than just a dance app in their opinion but a tool for a generation. The question that arises for me is what will be the next app to take over Tiktok. It won't be on top forever and what happens when that app is not American made. Will they also try to regulate it as well? It will be interesting to see how this hearing turns out and the impact it has on current and future social media apps.

It would be interesting to see a way the government could take the app away. Some won't be hurt by its removal but it has created many opportunities for others. I personally don't see them removing the app but I guess it is a possibility.

TikTok has become a huge app for consumers. Many other apps such as Facebook, Instagram, and even Snapchat have attempted to emulate their platform. Many Americans are concerned with the safety of the app. I think that if lawmakers concerns continue it could lead to the fall of TikTok which would open up various opportunities for apps like Facebook and Instagram. Over recent years it seems that there has been major concerns with data privacy. It will be interesting to see how lawmakers will attempt to ensure safety.

To me, industries often change, and no ones job is always safe from being lost. We have used the typewriter example in class. If I build typewriters and that's what I am good at, that doesn't mean that typewriters will always be needed and that the government needs to protect me from losing my job because interests are changing. These influencers will find a different platform and new ways to make money.
