THIS IS THE XFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

In recent news, the XFL is back. Vince McMahon, CEO of WWE, is giving the XFL a second chance. By doing this he is taking a crack at the monopoly we have come to love as the National Football League. The article stated that this comeback will be funded by McMahon himself as he sold 3.34 million shares of his WWE stock. This is worth about 100 million dollars. This time the league will be taking two years to get everything set up and promised "The new XFL is an exciting opportunity to re imagine America's favorite sport." The league is directed to take a more family oriented approach compared to its predecessor. Ultimately I think this is something that is much needed in the football world. NFL ratings have been on a decline and the NFL is very slow to innovate.

It will be interesting to see how the XFL will do compared to the NFL because of the popularity of the NFL. But you are right XFL gives a new look to football and hopefully will be entertaining to watch.

I'm definitely excited for the XFL to return in 2020. In terms of competition, I feel as if it will be almost impossible to compete with the NFL, however. The quality of players in the NFL are much better, and I don't think there is much room for sustainability with the XFL. Hopefully the league will be able to last more than one year this time like its last stint in 2001.

I do not think that the XFL will have any substantial impact on the market for football viewership or even innovations by the NFL. I would argue that organizations like the NFL have a natural monopoly on the top tier of their industry. The barrier to entry just to get a few decent players seem virtually insurmountable. The best case scenario for the XFL is if they take the major/minor league model from baseball. I doubt that any 5 star recruit will be itching to play in this league, so their market for talent will be retired NFL players or players who were not good enough in the first place to play at the elite level that the NFL requires. I think that the XFL may be able to compete with the Canadian football market but that's about it.

I think the initial ratings will be pretty high based on the marketing done prior but I think the biggest opportunity this league could have is signing younger players such as freshmen in college. The NFL requires three years in college which might hurt them compared to the XFL.
