Trump's immigration ban sends shockwaves

As of Saturday, Trump's executive order will ban more than 130 million people from the United States and will deny entry to all refuges. The move sent "chaos and confusion" through law enforcement agencies, airports, and foreign capitals, as they attempt to "grasp the US's new policy." The executive order is set to ban travelers from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan, and Yemen, all of which are Muslim majority nations, earning the order the title of "Muslim ban."

Effects of the order have been seen recently at John F. Kennedy Airport where more than 300 demonstrators attended, in protest of the recent policy. Recently, protest also took place at Logan airport in Boston with over 100 demonstrators.

Trumps administration has responded to recent comments of racism by saying that this was necessary in order to improve the "vetting" process of travelers. Trump also added that he believes the government "is totally prepared" to handle the situation. President Trump has signed a large amount of executive orders in his short time as president, many of which bring have brought concern and confusion to the public and it will be interesting to see how the public and other nations react to Trump's policy.

It would be very interesting to see how this ban will affect the economy. There are many immigrants from the countries on the ban list who have individuals come to the United States to pursue higher education and then contribute to the US economy via working and contributing to the skilled labor force of the country. That being said, do you think there will be more job opportunities present for citizens since the pool of applicants will decrease after this ban? The purpose of this ban was to decrease crime rate and I am not certain that this ban will be successful in doing so.

I agree with Shaaref, it will be interesting to see in the future if this ban will increase the amount of job openings available to U.S citizens because there will be a decrease in people from these ban countries entering the United States. One way that this could effect us is there could be a decrease in people that go into specialty jobs like doctors because there is a increase of immigrants from these countries that are in the medical field. for an example there was a doctor that works for the Cleveland Clinic that left the country and when he came back they wouldn't let him in because trumped signed the bill banning people from certain countries.

I'm very interested to see how other governments react to this. I read that Iran plans to ban US citizens from entering Iran, so maybe other affected countries will follow.

I read that as well Brooks. I wonder if any of the other 5 countries affected by this ban will take action against the U.S and it will be interesting to see how this affects business relation between the U.S and the middle east, specifically the countries with travel bans.

Many universities have sent out emails pledging to help those affected by the ban, however, this creates an issue where Trump has made a decision and then fails to properly explain why it was needed and how it would practically help Americans. It'll be interesting to see if this latest executive order is upheld considering the number of protests around the country at many of the major airports or whether amendments will be made.
