Why Google Hates Amazon Prime

What will happen to Google if no one searches for anything on it? Currently Google has fallen behind compared to Amazon's position as the primary destination for product searches that appears to be improving. A 2012 survey from Forrester Research found that Amazon was the starting point for just 30% of online shoppers. And the Amazon Prime Services has been leading to more loyalty, offering two-day shipping for a flat $99 yearly rate along with TV, movie, and music streaming, among several other benefits. So the Question is what is google doing to amp up their search engine and get more of the public involved, because the more popular Amazon gets the more Google falters.

In all honesty, I do no think a day will come in which Amazon Prime will push Google completely out of the search optimization market. I think it will be other search engines like Yahoo, Bing, or even a future competitor that will ultimately cause the end of Google. Google not only serves as a destination for product searches, but it also does data collection and provides informational searches. Amazon is limited to material products and online services like Amazon video and Amazon music.

Why I do not think Amazon will be the end for Google, I do however believe that Google needs to change its product management to revitalize their search optimization capabilities. If they fail to do so, other search engines will completely drive Google out of the market. Amazon has weakened Google to the point that they are no longer the leading competitor in the search engine optimization market and if they do nothing to help their brand, their brand will crack under the pressure like so many have done in the past.

I agree with Kaley. Google needs to change its focus and not only be a product search market. If they focused more on scholarly articles or news, that could be a game changer. But, that could narrow the market even more, alienating those who aren't in academia.

I know when I search for a product, I normally Google it and the first result is Amazon. And with the failure of Google+, Google needs to figure out what they're good at (email, messaging, docs) and work on those products.

I would disagree with Kaley that Amazon Prime is less of a competitor than Bing or Yahoo. Amazon is a growing market place and while a person might search for facts and information on google, the first place most people elect to do their on-line shopping is in fact Amazon.

As google tries to expand their on-line shopping sector they have one main competitor and that is Amazon. I don't see Bing or Yahoo really rivaling Google yet a lone Amazon when it comes to on-line shopping and marketing.

Amazon, definitely, is the biggest competitor in this online shopping sector for Google and with its vast expansion, it is just taking Google down more often. While Ebay is gradually emerging as another competitor with more of its Free Shipping and ease to buy and sell products options, which a lot of customers like, it is time Google pulls up its socks and comes up with something extra-ordinary to shift the customer's attention towards them.

I thought eBay was relevant a few years ago and was on the decline? Or is it on the incline now? Ecommerce has become such a big market, it's not just Amazon and eBay anymore. I wonder if Google will try to develop something in terms of commerce to take away from Amazon.

I do think that Google is doing something to be more competitive in China, since they announced their first strategic invesment plan to a Chinese company since past five years.

I think in regards to Google and Amazon, Amazon has a broader product line than does Google. While Amazon is used for shopping, television shows, and as a product search engine, whereas google is involved in being a dominant search engine and somewhat of a shopping center. I think both of these companies bring different business models to the table and while they are competitors, I would consider Google to have a narrower competitor base than does Amazon because of their breadth. Given this, I think that both of these companies will prosper, but will have to make changes to their companies as consumer preferences change and technology advances.

I agree with Ashley in that Google and Amazon cater towards different markets and have different strategies. When I first think of Amazon, I first think of online shopping, and then streaming TV and movies. On the other hand, Google first comes to mind in terms of a main search engine. Although Google has a more narrow market they need to focus on, that is their brand.
I do however believe that Google needs to invest more in their R&D because they could be lagging in their own segmented industry. While Amazon has clearly been seriously amping up their research and development recently, Google has seemed to remain pretty stagnant from past years. I would hope to see fast action from Google soon, or I would be concerned for their future competition.

I agree with Ashley in terms of the business structure of Amazon and Google. Amazon represents online shopping and Google is viewed as a search engine, just like Sophia stated. What I don't necessarily see as an issue is Google's current structure and operation. I really don't see anyone pushing Google out of their top spot in the tech space, and likewise for Amazon in their given sector. Since Google is starting to develop a broader online shopping business component, at the end of the day I don't feel as Amazon is going to compete with Google in the larger picture given their insignificant positioning against Google on a broader scope.

I think Amazon and Google focus on different areas. For me Amazon is just a market place where people buy things like clothes, movies or books, and google is more a search tool to reach to more websites with the information i need. So i don't think amazon will replace google some day.

I think Google has stepped it up somewhat to compete with Amazon with their "shopping" tab and thumbnails of similar products from a wide variety of online sources. Amazon may continue to rise as the preferred spot exclusively for shopping, but it has no chance in competing with Google as a search engine in general. Google can provide the price of product from Amazon compared right next to that same product from Zappos, for example.

I believe that Google will not be pushed out of the market as a search engine whatsoever. Amazon is a main competitor is online shopping because they have differentiated offers that Google does not have, such as Amazon Prime. Google is a powerhouse in the market and it will keep its spot near the top, although Amazon is doing well. Amazon will continue to be very successful in the online shopping market, but Google will not be forced out.

I think Google may hate Amazon Prime which took away part of market from google. However, I do not believe shop search will be a big part in google market since there are lots of academic information which Amazon cannot afford. It means Amazon prime cannot hurt google anyway.
