Buffet bets on rail superhighway to beat trucks ascoal fades

After this year,  BNSF Railway Co. will be more than 99 percent finished with a second, parallel line to its 2,200-mile (3,500-kilometer) Los Angeles-to-Chicago route. Doubling up will create a rail superhighway speeding deliveries of toys, electronics, autos and other goods, because trains won’t have to yield to each other on sidings as they do on single tracks. a high speed multi tracks that will link the busiest U.S. container port to the biggest railway hub, What will this do for the economy? hopefully it'll help the market to flourish.

I think what could really improve the economy is to have a high speed commuter rail. America's current rail system is extremely outdated and it takes hours to get from location to location, but with a high speed rail, it could take a lot less time. Yes, it would cost a lot of money to change the infrastructure, but it could provide more job mobility. I think the economic developments like this railway should be secondary compared to a commuter rail.

I agree with Emily in the fact that a high-speed rail system like this would highly benefit the American people as well as the American economy. When you look at countries like France and the incorporation of the TGV, a high speed rail system with lines that stretch to cities all over France, it has allowed for greater economic mobility and has caused real GDP to rise since its incorporation. One of the main lines links Paris to Lyon to Marseille which has practically helped France's economy grow ten-fold - something that I feel would happen with the installation of the LA to Chicago line. Since the incorporation of this crucial line in France, business men and women have been able to travel more easily from major city to major city which has in turn allowed for more time to be spent on business negotiations- allowing the French economy to blossom. I think that we can learn so much from European countries in areas such as infrastructure, health care, and unemployment benefits - and I truly feel that a project this big would cost millions, but the benefits it would provide would heavily outweigh the costs and would allow the United States to flourish.

I also think this will help improve the economy. Not only will it help with jobs, but it will help business receive their shipments quicker and can help with their turnover. It will cost a lot of money, but in the long run it will pay off. This is a big project, but infrastructure is one of the most important parts of a country, and we need an improvement in the rail infrastructure.

This will surely help the US economy a great deal. I agree that following the European system would be a good guideline for this project. This would reduce the times for shipments to be delivered and help businesses cut down on their operating costs. Although it will take some time to be implemented and cost a lot of money, but the positives from this project would bring jewels to the country's economy and help it grow more efficiently.

The completion of this will most likely decrease the amount of products that are shipped with airlines which should impact airline shippers substantially. However, since this wont takes products all the way across the U.S. as fast as airlines, these airlines will still have the advantage in the next day shipping company. This is because the trains will still need to distribute the packages to truckers or other forms of shipping.
