Energy, Jobs, and High Salaries

As the energy market heats up, new drilling technology allows for development of new oil reservers, and many Engineers in the energy industry are hitting retirement there is a perfect storm for a high demand and high wage career. Today Petroleum Engineering has the highest job placement rate and highest salary out of any engineering sector, under graduate students are taking notice more are pursuing the field of student. Energy companies are hard at work to insure they are able to attract the best students and have used wage as a driving factor. Do you think it is right that today a Petroleum Engineering is likely to make nearly $20,000 more then a Civil Engineer?

It's impressive that this field is growing so much in a time when many college students can't find a position in their field or at all after graduation. I would hope that other branches of the energy business such as those pursuing alternate forms of energy would follow similar tactics to attract innovators in their fields.

It is indeed a fact that America is currently producing more oil than it has over the past few years. So, maybe college students should focus on careers related to the petroleum industry.

I agree with Kim. I hope that the alternative energy think-tanks are able to increase their salary so that there is more interest in the field. With this, hopefully the trend will continue move to that type of engineering. At least with petroleum engineers, there can be more efficiency in the way that we utilize this resource while we can.

America wages are set by supply and demand. Energy, especially oil, is always at a high demand in America so it makes sense for energy engineers to make that much more than civil engineers. As Stephanie said, hopefully there is also an attraction for engineers to go into the fields of alternative energy sources as they are better options to oil.

It is interesting that there is opportunity in this field, but I suppose it could be a result of the baby boomers retiring and a smaller interest in these positions since they started work. However, students should consider that all energy engineering should be gaining popularity and need should increase for these workers.

I do believe this would be a great industry to look into jobs, but I also believe a lot of people will run at the opportunity. So it may be smart to look into jobs that will be made from this field or other correlated jobs.

Energy industries are famous for their high wage and bonus in China too. But only for the high level technical engineers. I think even though we have a huge demand in this sector, it still will take several years to raise fitted labors.
