Balancing The Budget: The Problem Might Be You
It seems that we do not dislike the government as long as we don't have to pay for any services provided by the government. However, as soon as we are faced with the bill, out stomach cannot handle many government services.

The article does have a good point though that our infrastructure and communication (internet) technologies are aging and becoming inefficient. Some reinvestment in this area needs to be done, whether or not taxpayers are willing to stomach the costs, if we want to keep a dominant presence in the world economy. In regards to desiring services from the government without having to pay for them, maybe the speaker from today could help advise our government on how to reduce their spending and influence to allow free markets to have a bigger role in the US, thus reducing the need for taxes but taxpayers could end up paying more for these services in the end.
This was a really interesting article and I think it explains a big problem we have here in the United States. I think there are really conflicting thoughts about government involvement and taxation- basically, Americans all just want to be free riders. Everyone wants to reap the benefits of services provided by the government but no one wants to hand over the money to pay for it. I find it quite confusing, however, especially when comparing taxes in the U.S. to other countries and how comparatively low ours are yet people never seem to think they are low enough. If we as Americanss are as concerned about their position in the global market as we claim to be, we are going to simply have to get over this resentment and fear of taxes.
