World's hungry hit more than 1 billion in 09: UN

Global economic crisis has also played a role in increasing hunger in the world. In 2009 there were 100 million people who were undernourished. Due to increase in food prices and less donations poor people haven't been able to get enough food in developing countries.

This article is heart breaking. It is so sad what is happening around the world. Hunger has always been an issue but more recently has increasing dramatically. This is fact stuck out the most to me, "The Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Food Programme said 1.02 billion people -- about 100 million people more than last year -- are undernourished in 2009, the highest number in four decades."
I just hope we can do something about this before we cannot do anything to change the situation.

I entirely agree about the fact that something need to be done to help these millions and millions of undernourished people! I believe that the government should thing about funding these countries simultaneously while thinking about the current recessionary issues. They should try to kill two birds with one stone!

It is shocking to read this type of article and realize how badly many people around the world are suffering because of these tough economic times everywhere. Food prices are far too high and continue to be too high for everyone around the world and this is evident in the swift growing number of hungry or malnourished people. Something more needs to be done by every country and the UN to help feed those 1.02 billion people around the world, especially when many people in developed countries are being overfed.
