Vaccine Mandate

United Airlines fired hundreds of employees who are reducing to comply with the character’s vaccine mandate. To be specific, UA fired up to 593 unvaccinated employees, who chose not to get vaccinated when the airline mandated vaccines for all employees. Airlines report that they want to make sure that the working environment is as safe as possible. Unfortunately, 7 employees are suing United Airlines for this decision. Moreover, 4,300 pilots of American Airlines are unvaccinated. Pilot unions are asking the White House for exemption for the president’s vaccine mandate. Across the country some essential workers are protesting the vaccine mandate. Some experts said that this mandate may lead to critical shortage in essential workers. It is very hard to get everyone vaccinated, due to right of choice, religious exemptions. On the other hand, people do not want to put themselves or their family in danger. Many people die, suffer, because of COVID-19. In order to stop this disease, I think that everyone should be vaccinated. If people are against it, then they should always wear masks. Moreover, they should be tested a couple of times per week.

Disclaimer: I am not trying to argue which party is right and which is wrong as this is a complicated and controversial political issue that everyone has different opinions on. I am just here to share a fact that I found interesting but also disturbing.

President Joe Biden is seeking to put pressure on about 80 million Americans to get vaccinated. The White House announced new federal COVID-19 vaccine mandates affecting roughly two-thirds of the US workforce, or up to 100 million people. However, members of Congress and their staff are EXEMPT from Biden's vaccine mandate.

Many companies have initiated a plan against COVID-19 by mandating the vaccine. Because it is not a federal law people cannot be forced to get the vaccine. People have been given the option to get vaccinated to continue to work or stay unvaccinated and be fired. Some companies/industries will have more trouble implementing the vaccine mandate than others. With unskilled jobs such as cashiers, servers, etc it is easy to mandate the vaccine because if a worker quits it is much easier to find a replacement. Skilled jobs on the other hand such as pilots will have a harder time implementing this because there has been a shortage of pilots, to begin with, and mandating the vaccine may cause more to quit. This is not the first vaccine to be mandated by a company, in the past polio was once a lethal disease, but because we reached herd immunity we were able to eradicate the disease. Some epidemiologists have estimated that 70% of the worldwide population would need to be vaccinated against COVID-19. 70% is a very high number, but it is achievable. To go off Hanna's fact if the Biden Administration wants to set the standard of being vaccinated then they need to be the change in the world. If Biden would like for all Americans to be vaccinated then it starts at the top by mandating the vaccination for members of Congress and their staff.

Companies can decide whether or not to mandate the covid vaccine in order to ensure the safety of their employees against the disease. People cannot be forced to get the vaccine, but they can be coerced into doing so in fear of losing their jobs. The military has also mandated the vaccine for its members but thousands still remain unvaccinated as the deadline to show their vaccination approaches. I think that this is a good way to ensure the safety of everyone involved and their families as well the country in general. Many people would consider this unfair or against their rights but the safety of everyone cannot be compromised because of the beliefs held by a few.

Yeah I would have to say the biggest thing out of all this is the leadership. I find it very ironic and unsettling that a vaccine we should be forced to take is not even being forced to be taken by top ranking government officials. To me they obviously stated their case to leadership which ultimately led to their exemption, but the average worker in America will not be given that same luxury of saying to their boss they refuse without the result being them getting fired. I just feel as if the standard is being set, it definitely needs to be set by the people who are supposedly pushing for these things to be implemented for the safety of our country first.
