Americans were kidnapped in Haiti

This morning American missionaries were kidnapped somewhere in Haiti. Seventeen people including children snatched by gangsters. One of the kidnapped messaged for help n a WhatsApp group. This happened in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Thousands of people leaving their homes in recent months and seeking safety at the U.S. border. In July of this year, the country’s president Jovenel Moise was assassinated in his home. With the government divided and the economy cratering, most of Port-au-Prince has fallen to armed gangs. In this chaos, kidnapping became a huge business. Men, women, and children were snatched at gunpoint for a little as a hundred dollars. At least 328 people were kidnapped in the first eight months of 2021, according to UN data. In my opinion, the UN should send the military to Haiti in order to stop this chaos.

Haiti seems to be a country that can't get out of its struggle. Their economy has been struggling for decades due to their terrible geographic make being prone to natural disasters and humid weather. I feel that the US needs to do a better job of stepping in and helping Haiti out whether that helping stimulate their economy or provide safety for their people.

NBC news had segment about the kidnapping in Haiti. One citizen that was interviewed stated that she has never seen violence unlike what is going on right on. Experts are saying that the Mawozo Gang is responsible for the kidnapping of the seventeen missionaries. The gang is requested $1 million for each person kidnapped. It is estimated that gangs control half of Port-Au-Prince. Something needs to be done to stop this unrest in Haiti. Here is the video if anyone wants to watch it.

I wonder if the U.S government will pay the 1 million per citizen to rescue them? Also should the government step in and try and stabilize the country through military intervention? then maybe try and help solve their economic struggles?
