Paying for public transport in Los Angeles

Paying for public transport in Los Angeles

This article from The Economist discusses the expansion of the rail system in L.A.  This city has some of the worst traffic in the world and this would be a very cost effective solution.  Other cities like Atlanta and Seattle are looking to follow the trend and expand their railways.  This appears to be long over due and this would be a nice trend to take hold in other parts of the country.  However, some economists argue that a bus system is a lot more cost effective and efficient strategy for handling the traffic density problems,  because many cities are not really dense in specific areas, but rather more spread out, especially like L.A.  I will be curious to see how this pans our in L.A. and what the future of public transportation looks like the in the United States.  To read full article visit the link below.

I thought that this article was very interesting. transportation is a big thing that people are focusing. I just read an article about people waiting to start putting in underground tunnels to help the traffic move faster and more smoothly. I could see public transportation declining in the future due to other companies that transport people like Uber.

I could not agree more with the statement about Los Angeles traffic being horrible. Being from Los Angeles I know that traffic is horrible and sometimes it may take some drivers about 1-2 hours to get to work/school. I personally rely on public transportation and it is great to hear that it will be expanding even more.

It's about time the United States works on their public transportation. For being the hegemonic global economic power and having huge infrastructure for inter-state trade, our inner- and inter-state transportation lacks. I would assume it will also be hard to build railways with already high flows of traffic, so that might also be an argument for bettering the bussing system.

I personally really like public transportation a lot. I'm also from a large city and population there is much denser than LA. Traffic problem was really serious in my hometown several years ago but not it's much better because of the built up of subway. Public transportation is not only protect environment but also it's a kind of life style. The better development of public transportation, the more people will use the public transportation, and the less car will be in the road.

I think public transport and infrastructure is something that the government needs to invest in. Since LA is densely populated, providing a public transport system would improve consumer satisfaction and positively effect the economy in the long run.
