Is Black Friday Worth It?
The biggest consumer driven time of year is upon us. US citizens are maxing out their credit cards and spending way too much time at the mall. The start of all this madness is known as Black Friday, when retail store have the best sales available for the entire season. A ploy to swarm stores with saving driven shoppers is getting to be a little too much. According to Forbes, one out of three shoppers have seen it get "ugly" on Black Friday. From stampedes to fights over the last product, shoppers are starting to say enough is enough. With the decline in shoppers on Black Friday, stores are starting to make their sales available a few days before the big charge for those consumers who desire to skip the madness. Thus leading us to wonder if Black Friday is really worth it? I know I won't be risking my life to save a few bucks. http://www.forbes.com/sites/kathleenkusek/2015/11/22/is-black-friday-worth-fighting-about-nearly-a-third-of-shoppers-have-seen-it-get-ugly/

Considering the fact that more than a couple people have actually been killed or severely injured from stampedes in the past, I believe Black Friday isn't worth it. What stores should do instead is offer online sales that are only available for a limited time. This would essentially have the same effect but would be all electronic and remove the "ugly" atmosphere.
I definitely do not think Black Friday is worth it. Not only does it rip away employees from their families, it encourages a horribly competitive atmosphere. Would people normally get riled up over a television? Under normal circumstances, probably not. I think if companies had similar Black Friday deals the days leading up to and after Thanksgiving, it would be better. But having sales start on Thanksgiving and impeded on the holiday is not a good idea.
Black Friday is definitely not worth all of the drama just to "save" money on items you wouldn't necessarily be buying in the first place. Crazy sales such as Black Friday incentivize consumers to "save" big time, however they're really just scamming customers to spend on items they don't need. It is also a horrible time for people who work in the retail industry, forcing them to be miserable during the holidays through long hours, angry customers, and a huge mess to clean up.
It also seems that many stores do continue to offer sales after Black Friday, which may be a more tame way for people to get their holiday shopping done. Also, Cyber Monday is a good opportunity for consumers to shop online for items, especially if they don't want to face the crowds.
Personally, as a consumer who has partaken in Black Friday activities for years, I do not think that Black Friday is worth all of the hype it has been given. In the past, it was always something I looked forward to doing with my mother and sister. Waking up in the wee hours of Friday morning to go Christmas shopping... it was every child's dream including mine. But now, with the stores opening their doors early on Thanksgiving night, I think it truly takes way from the most important thing during the Holiday, family.
With this, I also feel like the possibility to shop online on Cyber Monday has become more and more appealing to consumers. So, why go to the stores when you can just buy anything online nowadays while getting the amazing deals?
Black Friday is not worth it. All it does it take away from the family time during the holiday and degrades our society.
As a consumer and experienced shopper, I can say with confidence that Black Friday is not worth it. It is much more hype than actual savings. There are plenty of times throughout the year that stores offer sales of equal value or better.
