Apple Watch US Pre-Orders Estimated at 1 Million

Apple has already had 1 million customers pre-order an apple watch. The hotly-anticipated watch sold out online within hours. Buyers of some models won't receive their devices until May, while others will have to wait until July. A range of estimates have flooded in regarding how many Apple Watches will be shipped. JPMorgan predicted that Apple will ship 26.3 million units in 2015, and Bernstein projected that 7.5 million units will be sold in the second half of the year, and 20 million sold in 2016.

It will be interesting to see how the Apple watch competes with other watches such as the Fitbit, especially because the Fitbit has already been established in the market and offers a much lower price.

Consumerism is really incredible. The other competitors such as Pebble Time Steel, ASUS Zenwatch, Moto 360, etc. are much cheeper, but it is all about the brand and people love Apple.

I am curious, like Emily, as to how the Apple Watch will compare with things like FitBit that are already in the market and doing well. An advantage of the Apple Watch, in comparison to the FitBit is that it does most of the things that an actual iPhone can do, potentially making it more desirable than other fitness things. I find it very interesting how the watch was sold out within hours. I am curious to see how Apple will keep up with the demand, will they do as well as they have with the phones, or will they struggle?

I doubt that the Apple Watch will sell as many units as have been speculated. For many, the product is a novelty toy, either worth the investment as a symbol of status, or not worth the investment as a needless expenditure. Given the current array of options for watch configurations, this will likely have little further traction in the consumer market. Furthermore, the watch is effectively limited to whatever market share is associated with iPhones, which, although a significant mobile platform, form only part of the larger consumer base for mobile products. The pre-orders are more likely the die-hard fans of Cupertino; sales will likely taper, especially with a first generation product.

I don't really see the Apple watch in competition with the Fitbit because they offer quite different things. Fitbit seems to be for health conscious people where the Apple watch is for people who have too much money to spend on a phone for your wrist (my opinion). I think it will be interesting to see actually how many sell and what the customer feedback is like. I wonder if these customers think it's worth that much money.

Apple always puts out quality products and I believe the Apple Watch will be one. The brand name of Apple will help sell this watch and will ultimately be another successful product for them. Fitbit is a similar product, but ultimately Apple is to strong of a brand name to not be a major player.

The apple watch is a somewhat useful multipurpose piece of technology with a great marketing scheme. I am not surprising it's selling as well as it is. It combines functions from a number of other somewhat expensive devices. But it also seems like it's marketed towards people that can drop a few thousand dollars on something like that rather than people who can afford to drop a few hundred on an iPhone or iPod (thus, not college students).

I am not even surprised by this. Apple products have become more of a necessity these day. I just don't really understand where's the hype is from because apple products are way too overpriced
