Obama Signs Directive to End the Gender Wage Gap

Tuesday, Obama took action and called GOP members to take action to support equal pay for female workers, earning 88 cents for every dollar of their male counterparts. This action has been a long time coming and is of great concern to me. President Obama spoke about his two daughters and his hopes that they will be viewed, and more importantly paid, no differently than men by the time they enter the work force. I certainly hope it does not take that long. While, in the GOP dominated Senate, the Paycheck Fairness Act is seen as having little chance of passing, the president also took action by signing an executive order banning federal contractors from retaliating against employees who discuss their compensation. Hopefully we will soon see the end of this clear discriminating factor.

I think it's definitely a good thing that an act to end the wage differential is finally getting started. Although not surprising, it's a little weird that it would not be more popular in the Senate because I feel that at least all women should feel that they should get equal pay as well.

It is unfair that males and females have a wage gap. I don't know how it works in U.S but in Asia, jobs like hair stylist, make up stylist or people who work in nail salon, females are treated better than males, but jobs that require physical demands, guys are treated better in earnings. But if jobs require the same ability and produce the same level productivity, they should earn the same.

The female workers earning 88 cents to the dollar is an average. People do not understand that an average is based on extremes. Women are the same as men and this law actually differentiates men and women as somehow different. Women choose to be paid less when they choose to become pregnant. This is not a discrimination but the right of a woman who was born equal
