Petro Poroshenko, the billionaire chocolate baron hoping to become Ukraine's next president

The Ukrainian presidential election is due in May.  One of the candidates, a boxer (weird choice for a presidential candidate), has already stepped out of the race to support a different candidate: Petro Poroshenko a confectionery oligarch.  According to the article, he made a huge profit off of chocolate which was apparently a huge risk at the time.  During the Kyiv protests, he supported the anti government protesters at the cost of business, and even handed out candy bars to the protesters (presumably for free).  It seems to me that Petro could probably be able to increase the economic growth of Ukraine considering his economic background.  While, I am very skeptical of him running for president, he has shown some promise to the people and has not proven to be a failure like his running mate Yulia Tymoshenko who has a criminal history.

This seems like another interesting choice for president. Seems like a guy who is willing to take risks for what he feels right. Will be interesting to see how he handles the dispute with Russia if he is elected. With someone willing to take risks, this can be a good thing or a bad thing.

This is an extremely interesting choice for president. Ukraine is in a very difficult spot right now with all of the riots and the Crimea/Russia incident. They will definitely need a strong leader to take office, one that can help guide the country both politically and economically. His economic background could help their situation. Interest article.

This is an interesting overview of the scenario. Petro Poroshenko does seem to have the most support out of all the pro-European candidates but he is not the Maidan favorite. After the protests and standoff of Maidan and the old president, people made it clear how important their voice will be in any future political changes.

Petro Poroshenko has had some experience in politics and have shown his support for opposition and pro-European path, but he also worked with former president Yanukovich in the past, which leaves a dark mark on his reputation. Also the support of other opposition leaders like Vitali Klitchcko could be very useful in Mr. Poroshenko's election.
