Political Economy Analysis of Valve’s Management Model

As promised in class today, here is the link to the article about the company called VALVE and its cooperative style of management. Interesting for students of economic systems and history of economic thought.

The article is written by an in-house economist who is studying the system that Valve is practicing.

As a regular consumer of Valve products, this was a really interesting read. Aside from their management style I think a major reason why Valve has been so successful has been because of the message they send and what we as consumer perceive as their goal.

The company is very interactive with the community, and it is not uncommon to hear stories about their CEO meeting fans outside their offices or personally responding to letters. Compared to other video game developers and distributors, Valve is loved by the community because it doesn't squeeze us as consumers for all we're worth and then forget about them until they need their money again.

I've actually applied for a position at Valve that would start late this summer, and this article has made me want to work there that much more.
