Online sales see 16 percent spike on Black Friday

This article is a response to a pervious article saying Black friday sales were not as high as expected. This article points out that there was a 16% increase in sales on online websites, this might account for the weaker sales figures that they expected in stores. Obviously people would rather be shopping fro their own home then running out to crowded malls, and get stuck in lines. Im not sure what the normal annual rate for internet sales is on black friday but 16% sounds like a good increase.

Like Scott says, people would rather shop from their own homes, rather than dealing with the long lines and traffic. Online shopping is rapidly growing and will continue into the future. Why leave your house to get the same deals you would, if you were to go to the store? Consumers love convience, and this is the best way they can get it in todays world. 16% is a big jump and companies need to take note of this for next year.

This is an obvious trend that will only increase in the future. Online shopping helps you avoid the crowds at the malls during holiday season such as Thanks Giving or Christmas. The cost of shipping is also inelastic since it's usually quite cheap or at least equivalent to the cost of gas and efforts of going to the stores.

However, I can see online shopping
increasing to a certain extend. If I want to buy electronic items, I would want to go to the stores so I can receive more details from the staffs. I also would want to shop at the actual stores because there are items such as shoes and clothes that I want to try on before buying them. I hate returning stuffs after knowing that my ordered shoes were different in color or my ordered shirt were different in size.

In this age of increased technology and efficiency I think there will be a big increase in online sales in the years to come. Many stores are moving towards more online sales than actually having stores. People utilize this and save time as well by just shopping from their computers. Especially when online stores have free shipping, it takes away the disadvantage of online shopping so more people will shop online. Free shipping is something that many online stores do during Black Friday and time frame around it.
