NFL ticket prices on the rise

A slightly lighter look on the economic front! NFL tickets this year have been on average 4.5 percent more than last year ($76.47). Even though many teams are failing to fill their stadium they boosted the price of tickets. David Carter (executive director of USC's Sports Business Institute) said that the tough economy is certainly playing a large role in pricing decisions for the NFL organizations. Many of the teams are included price breaks on concessions and parking because of the price hikes in tickets. Many teams are banking on economic conditions improving and dans returning to the games to fill all the seats. Do you think the bad economy does have a big influence on game attendance or NFL tickets are such a priority and big ticket item that fans don't consider the price and just make the purchase?

I think the economy definitely is having an impact of NFL ticket sales. The article mentions how New York and Boston teams have the highest ticket prices and they are still going up. However, individuals living in these cities are used to high prices and probably expect ticket prices to go up, and thus don't see it as out of the ordinary. If prices were to rise in other less affluent cities like Cleveland, you would see a much different result.

I think the economy does play a role on NFL teams raising there ticket prices. Fans that really want to go to the games will still purchase the highly priced tickets. Those that can not afford it will not. I also think ticket sales are down because one, ticket prices are up and two, fans can sit in there homes and in essence have one of the best views in the stadium. Why would people want to pay high prices for tickets when they can watch the game on there high definition with a perfect view in the confort of there own home? Television is hurting the NFL's ticket sales in my opinion along with the higher ticket prices.
