Latest unemployed: Stimulus-subsidized workers

I believe that it is a good thing that the unemployment stimulus package is coming to an end. It will force many of unemployed to work harder to obtain and hold jobs which will help our economy grow. Further, I believe its conclusion will reduce our current free rider problem.

i agree with this 100%.. The more time you are getting paid not to work, the less likely you will probably be to look for a job. Especially because some people are actually making more not working then they would be if they went back to work..

I agree as well. By ending the unemployment stimulus package this will help give the incentive to people to get out and actually try to find a job. Those who already have jobs will then not have to keep spending their incomes on taxes for people who are not trying to find jobs, and are just collecting unemployment.

People need to get back to work and the only way to do that is for the government to stop just giving them money. This will give them no choice but to go out and find a job. I agree with the free rider problem, which is also a problem. The end of the stimulus package will end this too.

I think this is easily predicted. This is just a temporary program that helps save the current unemployment rate. Welfare really just creates fat lazy bums who depend on handouts to survive. I was wondering instead of subsidizing temporary work with borrowed money, why not offer subsidized tuition for one-to-two year programs that teach new skills?

I agree that unemployment packages are inefficient but due to the recession it is also harder for people to find a job. I feel that there is some social responsibility to help people when they are down. I think that JP proposes a good idea on subsidized tuition but on top of this it would be necessary guarantee job opportunities for after the program is completed. I'm not really sure what the best way to do that would be.

I agree with all said... people will continue to not work if they can get benefits of working for not doing anything. The only reason to spark the fire and get them working again is if the government stops giving them unemployment money. The fact that the unemployed are not receiving unemployment money will force them out to find jobs which in turn will likely decrease the unemployment rate for America (which is very high at the time).
