White House-2 million Jobs Saved or Created from Stimulus

For all the flack that the government has been getting for not doing enough in creating jobs, I thought this was a good article just to highlight some of the positive things that the stimulus has done for the economy. Nonetheless, the fact is that only 6% of the public believes that the stimulus has created jobs and this perhaps is reflective on the failure on communication on the government. Sometimes its not what really is being done, but also the perception of what is being done that is also just as important.

"Failure on communication on the government' = 'people aren't paying attention.'

I think the media is to blame. They focused the nation's attention on "bail outs" and the problems of the economy.

The media is partially to blame, but only FOX, CNN, and MSNBC should be "blamed" amongst the media for their ratings-craze. PBS, ABC, and local affiliates whose news reporting is not as ratings-driven have not been so arduous in their pursuit of "the truth." In the end, the refusal of people to pay attention (combined with their sudden desire every election year to go vote) places the blame squarely at the feet of the people.

Some parting stats:
2% of Tea Party protesters did not know Obama reduced taxes for people earning less than $200,000. 6% of Americans believe the stimulus bill helped with recovery. 47% feel Obama has not done enough to spur on the economy. 53% believe Obama is spending too much and is being irresponsible. 80% want more spending on roads and bridges. 70% want tax cuts. 62% want spending on mass transit. 83% want increased unemployment and health insurance.

People are just plain dumb.

So what I gather then is that people want the government to do more for them with less money. Maybe it's not so much that individuals are dumb but a societal trend of entitlement that amounts us to a "Guitar Hero nation." We want to play the songs but God forbid we actually have to put in the work to learn the chords.
