She Works. They're Happy

This article relates to a discussion we had in class about women in the workplace. The article talks about that women are entering the workforce more and more and that women are becoming the bread winner in more marriages in the past twenty years. The article also correlates the fact that the more women are able to be independent and self sufficient the more likely that marriages will be successful.

I come from Pakistan where the males are the breadwinners and women are just housewives who look after the house and children. However, this has changed over there as well. When I did an internship back home last summer I was surprised to see the rise in the number of women working.

I think this is an interesting topic and that more research should be done on marriages where women are higher in their career than their husbands. I previously thought that when the woman is more successful than her husband, then the marriage is less likely to last. I would think that the women who are more independent would have a higher divorce rate because they would not rely on their husband as much.

I really enjoyed this article! I think it's great that more and more women now a days are not going to college just to find their "MRS" degree. It's also great to see that because the women are working and men staying home, divorce rates are lower.
