Xi Jinping of China Arriving in U.S. at Moment of Vulnerability

China’s economy has slowed more abruptly than policy makers have appeared ready for, alarming investors around the world. The government overestimated its ability to keep stock prices aloft, spending billions to bolster the Chinese markets.

Mr. Xi is to arrive in the United States on Tuesday facing economic headwinds and growing doubts about his formula for governing — a sharp contrast with the image of unruffled control he projected when he hosted President Obama last year.

Mr. Xi and Mr. Obama are expected to discuss their differences on a number of subjects, including cybersecurity, tensions in the South China Sea, the repatriation of Chinese officials accused of corruption and the Chinese government’s harsh treatment of dissidents and lawyers.

In a speech last week intended to preview Mr. Xi’s positions on major issues between China and the United States, China’s foreign minister, Wang Yi, sounded a defiant tone. “I wish to reiterate that the Nansha Islands are China’s territory,” he said, using the Chinese name for the archipelago. “These are China’s positions that will not change.”

This visit will be huge for US/China foreign policy. The countries are like frenemies- friends one minute, enemies the next, as seen by the alleged cyberattacks and construction in the South China Sea. Obama is desperate to rebuild strong relations with China, however, I'm not sure Xi feels the same way.

It seems as though a lot of promises are hot air. We'll see what types of policy announcements come our way this week. I'm quite excited to see what happens. The article states Xi is in power for seven more years, and it'll be interesting to see what he does with the next administration.

These visits always excite a lot of people around the globe. It will be interesting to see what these two parties decide about fighting cyber-theft that has been ongoing between these two countries for a while. I would personally hope they have stricter laws against piracy and that they let companies take more control to shield against such threats by building a more secured system.

There are a lot of issues that US and China agree on and disagree on. Each country is trying to choose the best for its own, but there are some common agreements. I hope they can find a way to cooperate.

I think no one would like to see any war between China and U.S., not just China and U.S. but all the countries over the world since otherwise, no one get guarantee the world economy still can grow healthily. Hence, this event show that "peace" is now everyone want, and choose "peace" is always a win-win decision.
