Nintendo Needs a Hit in a Hurry

In today's market we are seeing more and more of the perennial powerhouse companies be overtaken in their industry within a quite short period of time.  It's fascinating because just days ago I was reading about how the top three phone providers from 5 years ago, are now not even within the top 5 nowadays.  The question is what has caused this movement to occur?  A possible problem is that these companies were unwilling to alter their corporate strategy while other new entrants reinvented the industries.

I don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel for Nintendo. The only thing that keeps Nintendo going is its brand preference by older consumers, consumers who have been around from the beginning when Nintendo was an innovator in the gaming market. Other gaming systems such as the Play station and Xbox continue to gain market dominance through being ahead of the technology bubble and integrating other popular networks into their system such YouTube, internet, Google, Facebook, and many others. They not only are continuously improving their systems but are showing their strong following of consumers that they are good at it. And when it comes to technology brand preference plays a major role.

If Nintendo has proven anything with the Wii, it is their ability to sell consoles. Even with inferior hardware and general lack of games of the magnitude of its competitors, the Wii has outsold the PS3 and Xbox 360 by about 30 million units. I think that Nintendo has also learned not to rely wholly on a gimmick, although some may see the touchscreen controller as such, I doubt that the Wii U will lag behind as much in hardware. It would come as no surprise to me if Nintendo could bounce back with the Wii U, at least partially.
