Bush Urges Countries to Avoid Protectionism

This article talks about the global financial crisis that started in the United States. and how George Bush has tried to dissuade other countries from using protectionist policies. Bush says that the lesson to be learned from the great depression is that protectionism doesn't work, and can only add to the problems. Do you think he is right??

I find it rather ironic that Bush earges other countries to avoid using Protectionism when the US itself practices farm subsidies that give US farmer an edge over agriculture exports from other countries.

good point KT but it doesn't just stop at subsidies for farmers. The US and other western industrialized nations don't follow many of the rules set in place by the IMF and World Bank that developing countries are supposed to follow. It's hypocrisy at it's finest.
